Hello friends, I hope you are all well and enjoying the start of summer!
This update covers the April to June 2021 quarter and includes news about recently released minerals research and data from Geoscience BC's Central Interior Copper-Gold Research program to focus mineral exploration in the region, as well as a blog on minerals research projects that have added new value to old samples by reanalyzing them using modern techniques.
On the energy side, you will see how we are supporting Saltworks Technologies Inc. to develop its AirBreather evaporator-crystallizer that uses excess heat from natural gas production to efficiently and effectively treat produced water on-site. You will also read about one of our energy research projects that has established a closely spaced network of seismographs in northeast BC. Also check out new water research into potential impacts of fugitive gas emissions on groundwater.
We have announced a Chair of our Minerals Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and appointed three new members of our Geothermal TAC. The Geoscience BC Annual Report 2020-21 highlights innovative and collaborative research projects that are contributing to BC's economic recovery, lower emission future and stronger relationships with Indigenous groups, industry, local governments and academia. And Geoscience BC's scholarship recipients have also been announced, providing a valuable lift to 10 post-graduate geoscience students working on minerals and energy research in British Columbia.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of Geoscience BC, I wish you a safe and productive summer 2021!
