From Your Editor: We are all leaders

At the annual meeting, a new board was elected, consisting of newcomers, previous board members, and some old timers. I'll save the roll call for later, but you should know that members of the board continue to bring amazing skills and dedication to HOTV.

Here's who is serving you and the community:

  • Someone who used to watch the Thursday Social Run folks waltz into The Crow Bar during her shift, and pine to be part of the group. Many years later, she's no longer waiting tables, she waiting for the 6:00 PM start at 5 Star.
  • Members who purposely chose Corvallis as their landing pad due to HOTV's active schedule and welcoming vibe.
  • Another mentioned that running has helped with social awkwardness.
  • A member shared that time on the trails and in the forest is effective therapy and wants to help pass that on to the community.
  • A world class ultra runner is back in town, helping HOTV and the community explore the forests and their own limits.
  • A lifelong volunteer and OG board member continues his dedication to promoting fitness in our youth and among adults.
And that's just a few of your board. In addition, we have members who are not on the board but remain the backbone of our events, our weekly runs, and the spirit of our club. Everyone can be part of our mission.

The board doesn't move our club forward, club members do that.

Our website has everything you need to know. The club will continue its action in the community through donations, volunteerism, and promoting fitness thanks to y'all!

Stuff You Need To Know
THE MEMBER SURVEY PERKS
Did you fill out a survey and still want your coveted HOTV pint glass? Contact Gerhard and we can arrange a drop off, or count on picking it up at the April 7 Trail Running Film Festival.or May yoga event.

TRAIL FILM FESTIVAL AND YOGA FOR RUNNERS
These two world famous events will happen in April and May. Schedule yourself for the evening of April 7 at the Whiteside for the films, and mid May (post CHM, Boston, Mac 50K) for the yoga class at Willamette Power Yoga. Thanks to Scott Leonard and Biz Stamm for organizing these two events. More details coming.

GROUP RUNS

  • Every Second Sunday of the month, Biz Stamm leads a trail run in the local hills. Distances and places vary, but no one runs alone. Next one is February 12th. Look for info on the Facebook group page, or contact Biz directly.
  • Check out the club website for all the ways to connect with other runners, get faster, get stronger and have some fun. Our motto is: no one runs alone.
  • Go the club website to make sure you sign a waiver for the group runs of your choice. The waiver is good for all of 2023 for that particular run.

CORVALLIS HALF and BOSTON MARATHON and PETERSON RIDGE
These two world famous events happen the same weekend this year. The third one, a trail race, is 2 weeks earlier. The training guide will definitely help prepare for the road races. It might also be a guide for developing running efficiency for those doing the 20 or 40 mile Rumble options. As of now, I plan to use our website workouts link, email list, and Facebook group to get the word out about workouts.

The MAC 50K
Biz has put together a training plan for the iconic Mac 50K on May 6. Club members will be leading some of these runs on an ad hoc basis, but the plan is there for you to use as a guide or as gospel. Here's a link to the google doc, which Biz is updating and revising from time to time.  It will also be on our website workouts link. Bravo to all of you taking on this challenge. It's also a great volunteer opportunity.
