Upcoming major construction updates
  • Side street closures during demolition and paving
    • The following streets are closed on the east side of Delridge Way SW (timing is weather dependent and may change):
      • SW Alaska St (through early next week)
      • Puget Blvd SW (through the end of next week)
      • SW Hudson St (through the end of November)

Side street closures during demolition and paving
As we move along the corridor, there will be instances when we will need to demolish and rebuild the roadway in front of side streets. During this time, you can expect no access to or from Delridge Way SW. We will notify residents if there are any anticipated restrictions to specific properties. While we complete this work, please continue parking in designated parking spots along the street or in personal driveways if applicable. People who park their vehicles in the right-of-way near road closure signs or temporary no parking signs are subject to ticketing or towing.
Work by zone
For all work described below, residents and businesses will be notified in advance of any anticipated impacts.
  • Zone A (West Seattle Bridge to SW Findlay St)
    • Cement concrete panels being placed between NB lanes between SW Alaska St to SW Edmunds
      • Each pour day is approximately 300 CY
      • Jansen is working long shifts during dry days to get roadway paved
    • Demolition and subgrade prep in the NB lanes from SW Edmunds to SW Hudson St will continue 
      • Cement concrete panels pour will happen 11/14
    • Demolition and subgrade prep started between SW Hudson and Puget Blvd SW in the NB lane
      • ITS and Signal conduit installing begins after demo
    • Sidewalk, ramp and curb demolition, and paving on the east side of Delridge Way SW between SW Andover St and SW Alaska St to continue through the end of November
      • As a reminder, sidewalks will be completely closed when concrete is being poured and while it cures. Bus pads will also be formed as a part of this work.
    • Continued demolition and paving on Delridge Way SW (east side)
      • Paving between SW Alaska St and SW Edmunds St is scheduled to be completed soon
      • Paving between SW Edmunds St and SW Hudson St is scheduled to begin this week
        • As a reminder, driveways will be completely closed when concrete is being poured during paving
      • Demolition between SW Hudson St and Puget Blvd SW to begin this week
        • Demolition is expected to last for approximately a week and a half. Access to driveways will be maintained, except when we are demolishing the roadway directly in front of your driveway.
      • Demolition between Puget Blvd SW and SW Brandon St to begin as early as November 18
        • Demolition is expected to last for approximately a week and a half. Access to driveways will be maintained, except when we are demolishing the roadway directly in front of your driveway.
        • Paving is scheduled to begin in early December. Driveways will be closed until paving is complete.
    • We are installing traffic counters on 26th Ave SW and Delridge Way SW at SW Andover St, SW Genesee St, and SW Brandon St as early as this week
      • The counters will be counting vehicle traffic to determine how traffic volumes have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic and Stay Home, Stay Healthy order from Governor Inslee, as well as how they've changed during the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge closure
      • We will use the data from the traffic counters, along with the community input, to inform our next steps on 26th Ave SW
      • The traffic counters will be removed by the end of November
  • Zone B (SW Findlay St to north of SW Orchard St)
    • Storm drainage work wrapping between 24th and SW Myrtle 
    • Roadway demolition has begun on the SB lanes of Delridge Way SW between SW Graham St to 22nd Ave SW and then move between 22nd Ave SW to SW Holly St 
    • Pipework to continue throughout Zone B
      • We will continue working between 24th Ave SW and SW Myrtle St through mid-November
      • We will also begin working at SW Juneau St in early December
      • Please expect noise, dust, and vibrations during this work. If you experience issues with your water service, please contact Seattle Public Utilities' 24/7 service line at (206) 386-1800.
    • Roadway demolition and paving work continues on the west side of Delridge Way SW in this section
      • Paving between SW Graham St and 22nd Ave SW began this week. Driveways will be completely closed when concrete is being poured during paving.
        • 23rd Ave SW will be fully closed to traffic until early December. People wanting to access Delridge Way SW from this neighborhood are encouraged to detour to SW Willow St [view detour map].
        • Flaggers will be in the area to help control traffic
      • Demolition between 22nd Ave SW and SW Holly St to begin as early as this week
        • This work is expected to last for approximately one week
      • Demolition between SW Holly St and SW Willow St to begin as soon as mid- to late - November
    • Crews will be working this Saturday, November 14 to continue paving activities
  • Zone C (SW Orchard St to SW Roxbury St)
    • Joint utility trench continues to move south from Hudson to Thistle in SB lane. This work will continue into December 
    • Duct bank work will continue in this area for several weeks
      • We are working with multiple agencies to install utilities in the trench along Delridge Way SW. You can expect sidewalk closures and shifted traffic lanes during this work
      • We are currently working our way south towards SW Thistle St. This work will involve some intermittent driveway impacts
      • SW Thistle St will be closed on the east side in early December for equipment staging and duct bank installation
      • We will return to the area in early December to restore the work zones. Thank you for your patience during construction
    • Please expect traffic delays as we move large equipment in and out of the travel lane. Flaggers and UPOs will be present to direct traffic
REMINDER: Businesses along the corridor are open during this work. Please follow posted detour signs as you visit these businesses.
What to expect during paving and construction
  • Work hours are typically between 7 AM and 7 Pm but can last until 10 PM without a noise variance
  • You may experience temporary access restrictions in and out of driveways on Delridge Way SW during active demolition
  • Loud hammering, dust, and vibrations
  • During active demolition, onsite crews will be able to provide access to emergency vehicles of for people leaving their homes for emergencies
  • If you need your car in a timely manner, we recommend parking on side streets. Otherwise, please be prepared for delays and plan to connect with crews onsite to coordinate access.
  • Steel plates or a gravel ramp will be placed to provide access to the driveways outside of active work hours
  • Up to one week of driveway restrictions as concrete cures directly in front of your property. We will deliver notices to any properties with this impact.
  • Vehicle lane shifts around work zones
  • Temporary bus detours and bus stop relocations. Please contact Metro for more information. 
As part of this project, we will be upgrading the roadway throughout the corridor. The roadway above has been fully demolished and is getting prepared for paving. Driveways will be closed as we repave the roadway. You can expect roadway demolition to look like the photo above.
