Turning Encroacher Bush into Fodder
Transforming Namibia: Turning Encroacher Bush into Fodder
The production of animal fodder from local encroacher bush has transformational potential for farmers in Namibia. Farms become more drought resilient, productive rangeland is restored through bush thinning and billions are saved in reduced animal fodder imports.
The short film introduces the process of producing bush-based animal feed in Namibia from harvesting of the bush to milling, mixing with supplements and storing. It is based on a one-year pilot project spearheaded by GIZ Bush Control and Biomass Utilisation Project from April 2016 to July 2017.

FSC Africa welcomed Dr Harrison Ochieng Kojwang as the new FSC Regional Director for Africa. He started on 4 January 2019.
Harrison is a Kenyan Citizen and has a background in forestry, environment and natural resource management. He studied forestry at the Universities of Nairobi, Helsinki and British Columbia. After graduating from the University of British Columbia in 1989, he had a 5-year stint as an academic at Moi University in Kenya. Thereafter he was appointed as Director of Forestry in Namibia where he worked for 7 years, before joining WWF as its Representative in Southern Africa from 2001 to 2009. Since 2009, he has been a private consultant in forestry, and environment, and has worked for several governments, regional economic communities in both East and Southern Africa, and in addition, for a number of international organizations, notably, the United Nations and the World Bank.
As an active member of the African Forest Forum (AFF), Harrison has been actively engaged in regional and global discourses on forestry, particularly the promotion of Sustainable Forest Management in sub-Saharan Africa and on matters pertaining to ‘reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation’ (REDD).

Political German Delegation
A Political German delegation visited the office of Namibia Charcoal Association on Tuesday, 26 February 2019. What a privilege it has been to be the host for this group of people.
Gunther, Roelien, Jasper and Michael,
A  big thank you for your effort to welcome the German parliamentary delegation on Tuesday. The group was impressed seeing ALDI charcoal being packaged at
Makarra and hearing about the enormous potential of the industry from Gunther. The NCA office, with its new layout, made a very good impression! Your effort is much appreciated. On our side we will ensure that such visits also “pay-off” in the long-run.
