SBN/IFC Contributing to G20 Sustainable Finance Study Group (SFSG)
SBN/IFC has been a key knowledge partner for SFSG since its inception. In 2016, SBN contributed an Input Paper on “Sustainable Banking in Emerging Markets” (read the 2018 updated version »), with case studies that informed the global agenda. Under Argentina’s G20 Presidency this year, IFC/SBN provided two Input Papers.

 SBN Welcomes Financial Superintendence of Colombia
Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia joined SBN in September. The Superintendence plans to identify interventions that leverage green finance and policies that better-align Colombia’s financial system with sustainable development.

New Guidance from Member Countries

Mongolia Launches National Sustainable Development Roadmap
“Mongolia’s sustainable finance efforts to date were largely driven by the private sector through a voluntary sustainable finance initiative,” said Naidalaa Badrakh, chief executive officer of Mongolian Sustainable Finance Association.

Morocco Announced Guidelines to Promote Green, Social and Sustainability Bonds
The Moroccan Capital Market Authority’s new guidelines, developed with IFC/SBN support, comprise updated guidelines for Morocco’s green bonds market and a new framework for the social and sustainability bonds market.

The State Bank of Vietnam approved a scheme to shift economic growth targets toward green and sustainable growth, rather than high growth of the past. It accelerates the awareness and corporate responsibility of the banking sector.

The Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC), with support from SBN/IFC, is in the process of finalizing the draft Sustainable Finance Implementation Guidelines.

Ghana Shares Draft Sustainable Banking Principles with Stakeholders
The first draft of Ghana’s Sustainable Banking Principles, for stakeholder comments, presents a broad framework for financial institutions to improve ESRM practices, with links to international good practice guidelines (including IFC Performance Standards) and accompanying sector notes.

Sri Lanka Central Bank Prepares Sustainable Finance Roadmap
In September, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka continued its work stemming from the SBN workshop. This time, working with IFC, CBSL organized a roundtable in Colombo to develop a sustainable finance roadmap.
