A brief update from CHSE... We know that staff across the Faculty are working really hard and doing their best to transition to new ways of working.  On behalf of the Faculty Education Directors, we want to say thanks to all our staff for your dedication and commitment to providing the best education and outcomes for our students.
Due to social distancing measures, we had to cancel our Teaching & Learning Conference last month. This was a great shame as lots of work had gone into the preparation. Thank you to all those who were due to participate  - We are determined to run the conference again in the future and will let everyone know via our website and regular communications when we have a new date.

We have also had to cancel our face to face staff development sessions that we had planned for the remainder of the academic year on:
  • MCQ question writing and Post-examination analysis of MCQs
  • Writing for Publication
  • Exploring bias and inclusive pedagogy
  • Workplace based Assessment Networking
  • TEL: Show & Tell session
We will reschedule sessions as soon as we can and let you know when you are able to book a place.  This is likely to be in academic year 20/21.
We have paused our CHSE staff development workshops for now but do remember that there are materials available to you in the Blackboard CHSE Staff Development course.  You will find a series of handouts and powerpoint presentations there if you are taking some time to catch up on academic writing at the moment.  Do contact if you want any support with education research data analysis or write up.

All Faculty staff should have access to the CHSE Staff Development course. On the Blackboard homepage, it should appear under 'My Organisations' (usually in the middle column) rather than under 'My Courses'. This link should also take you straight to the folder structure so you can explore material from sessions that have previously run. If you don't have access, please contact so that I can add you.

Dr Fowler will still be running these sessions in June but remotely via University Skype for Business, or by telephone if preferred.  These sessions are open to all staff in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Bristol who would like some guidance and support with developing their educational research. This is an opportunity to discuss your research idea in a small group (online) or one to one with an educationalist. There are eight 15 minute slots available for you to choose from between 12.00 and 13.45 on Thursday 11th June.

You can book your individual /group slot with Dr Ellayne Fowler by signing up to this doodle poll.

In the meantime, if you want to get started there are materials on the CHSE staff development Blackboard site. There are PowerPoints and also handouts on various topics including:

  • How to write an abstract
  • Focus groups
  • Writing for publication

There will be future tutorials to discuss your progress and provide further opportunities for discussion.
