Rudder Cup wrap up

Safe to say that last weekend's Rudder Cup Launch Race to Sail Rock was a great success, with 15 of the Classic Yacht Association's finest launches turning up on the start line on a rather stormy Friday night!

The race was only the third time in 110 years that the event has run, with other two events in 1908 and 2008. A special mention must go to Kumi, the only boat to race this year that also raced in 1908.

We have a bunch of thank you's to record:
  • Event sponsors & supporters: The Riverhead Tavern, Manson Anchors, and Go Fuel
  • John Street and his perfect canon firing to get the race underway
  • The race handicappers - who shall remain anonymous!
  • Chris Collins and his amazing helper Ann who were there in the start tower to kick off proceedings at 7pm and who were still there recording finish times as 12.30pm the following day
  • The Rudder Cup race committee - including Jason Prew (CYA Vice Chair), David and Barb Cooke, Alan Houghton, Baden Pascoe, Chris and Joyce
  • And of course the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron for hosting us for the weekend and their ongoing continued support of the CYA - it is very much appreciated
Our congratulations to the winners!

Cruise in company

This Holiday Season if you fancy something different, consider joining us on a cruise north to the Bay of Islands! Travelling with other vessels has added benefits like safety in case of any mishaps, having like-minded company with you when you are at anchor and tips on where the fishing is good!

Meeting at Kawau on 27th/28th December 2018, we will make our way north in a few legs depending on the weather. The Bay of Islands has so much to offer in the way of great destinations, with provisioning and fuel facilities at multiple places, and we now have the offer of a visit to Lady Ellen who is being restored in Russell, and even possibly a few other beauties being restored close by!

The idea is to travel in company, but at whichever destination you choose to break off at; do your own thing. Then ideally re-join the team to head back to Auckland.
