One Great Hour of Sharing
Restoring Hope, Feeding the Hungry, Empowering the Oppressed,
We are the Church Together

It is once again the season for One Great Hour of Sharing.  This special offering supports three programs of our Church, (1) the Presbyterian Hunger Program (2) Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and (3) the Presbyterian Committee on Self-Development of People.  These programs funded by the One Great Hour of Sharing Special Offering provide safety, sustenance and hope for millions of people who lack access to sustainable food sources, clean water, sanitation, education, and opportunity.

This past year has been a challenge for everyone throughout the world.   Imagine how much more challenging it has been for those people already facing loneliness, hunger, inadequate shelter or racial injustice and oppression.  One Great Hour of Sharing allows those of us who are able, We the Church, to relieve some of the suffering and to lift up those who could desperately use a helping hand.  With this special offering, We the Church are given the opportunity to use our gifts to partner with those who struggle most.  Giving to the programs which use focused projects to assist people is one of the most important ways that We the Church, come together in mission and ministry.

Consider a donation to this offering of our denomination. Donate here or send a check to the church and be sure to put “One Great Hour” in the note on the check.

Opportunities

First Pres, through the Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee, has been working with the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. Here are opportunities for education and advocacy:

March 15 Moral Monday Demand Delivery Follow Up
Last week we braved the (hopefully) last cold and wind of the season to join with dozens of other states around the country to deliver our demands and make our voices heard!
Watch video of our action here.
Watch the National Livestream and action round-up here.
Haven't added your name to our demands yet? You can do that here.
Moral Mondays continue around the country, with livestreams every Monday at 3pm at poorpeoplescampaign.org and facebook.com/anewppc

Here is the meeting agenda, with notes included at the bottom from PPC’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, 2/16.

The demands of Poor People's Jubilee Platform are bold and visionary - but possible! However, it is only with a fusion movement that uplifts the poor and dispossessed and centers the narrative of the oppressed that we can achieve justice for all. Over the next several weeks, we will continue to push this agenda nationally and in our state and region. You may ask yourself “where do I even start?” Good news! You can:

Join a Capital Region PPC Working Group

Base building: Engage in outreach and movement building to unite our class and develop leaders

Political Education: Educate yourself and others on the history of the poor and dispossessed and how their struggles relate to today's conditions.

Care Team: Create processes and hold space to help those dealing with the trauma and frustrations of living in an oppressive society.

Upcoming Events - mark your calendars and stay tuned for RSVP links!

Tuesday, 4/6 6:30-8pm: PPC Phone Banking Party
Wednesday, 4/14 6:30-8pm: Housing Know Your Rights with United Tenants and Troy DSA

Baby Institute Quilts and Blankets

A reminder to all knitters, crocheters and quilters to please keep the Baby Institute in mind as you look for a nice spring project to work on  busy as we move out of the winter months and into spring when hopefully we will leave the pandemic behind!  The Baby Institute that First Pres has been supporting for a number of years consists of a series of parenting classes led by Noelene Smith, MSW.  We have provided baby blankets handmade by members and friends of First Pres to each of the graduates of the classes.

Programming for the classes and other activities has necessarily been disrupted and modified during the past year.  However, the need for warm, comforting blankets is no less. There are no specific requirements for blankets- just warm, colorful knitted, crocheted, or quilted - all handmade with love to surround a new child with our prayers and support.  Blankets are appreciated at any time.

For questions, or to arrange for pick-up, please contact
Harriet Seeley (518-621-7172, lcpcats@nycap.rr.com)
or Ann Songayllo Hannay (518-610-2300, annsong156@gmail.com).
We look forward to your participation!
