The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) concluded on Saturday. A 2-page summary report of the Assembly can be found here.

For a commentary on the racial issues that were present throughout, and why they might have been hard for those of us who are white to comprehend, this blog post from the Rev. Ryan Landino, who is the Lead Presbyter for Transformation in the Great Rivers Presbytery and a member of the GA’s Special Committee on Racism Truth and Reconciliation is a helpful resource. This additional resource was commended to Albany Presbytery by Becca Putman, Stated Clerk, and Amaury Tañón-Santos, minister member of our Presbytery and Synod Networker for the Synod of the Northeast.

First Pres, through the Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee, has been working with the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. Here are two upcoming opportunities.

Wednesday, July 1, 5pm - NYS Poor People’s Campaign Open House
Are you a New Yorker who is new to the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival? Did you get connected through the Digital March on June 20? Or have you been involved before but want to learn more about what’s next?

Join us on July 1 for a statewide virtual Open House to get connected and help build this movement to end systemic racism, poverty, militarism and ecological devastation and shift the distorted moral narrative that upholds them all.

This event will be held via Zoom. Those who RSVP will be sent the login information on July 1. The meeting will also be recorded and emailed to all who registered. Spanish and ASL interpretation provided.

Wednesday, July 15, 6:30pm - Capital Region PPC Organizing Meeting
Our next public, monthly organizing meeting! Join to learn about the work of the campaign in the Capital Region and take action together.
