Health and Safety
of our Community
A Message from the Ad Hoc Committee

The contagiousness of Omicron has made it inherently more unsafe to gather. There is significant scientific data that the variant is more contagious and is less likely to be prevented by the vaccine. Our local community is facing the highest cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Statistically, if we gather 100 vaccinated individuals, there would be folks with active covid-19. With the belief that our church must be a safe place to gather and keeping the care and concern of others in the highest regard, we are faced with a challenge. Thankfully this variant is seemingly less severe but that does not mean it will not cause serious illness or death.
First Presbyterian worshiped virtually (no in-person) on January 9 and will do so on January 16 as well. Session meets on January 18 and will carefully consider and plan for future Sundays.
Mask wearing
When we do gather, our most important safety provision is masking. The CDC has acknowledged the virus is airborne and we cannot rely on the adage of six feet plus masking plus vaccination if available. We must add better masks to this equation in order to keep each other safe. We are requesting folks switch to high-filtration face masks such as KF94, KN95s, or N95s. These should cover your nose with an adjustable nose bridge and be snug to the face with minimal gaps. During the service, we will require the use of one of these masks. Surgical or cloth masks will not be allowed inside the church. The congregation is encouraged to bring their own high filtration face mask, but we will provide one to all who are unable to procure their own. Our staff has been wearing these masks since mid-December.
Thank you for your patience, adherence and flexibility as we journey together!

Would you like to help run the audio-visual systems during the church service? You would control the soundboard, which broadcasts the audio throughout the sanctuary and the Internet broadcasting software that delivers the Facebook livestream. And, of course, you'd receive full training.

Our team shares these duties so that your commitment would be between 8 - 12 Sundays per year.

If interested, please contact Dwight Cheu at We also welcome high school students too -- this would be a great introduction to audio and video broadcasting.
