unless they live in the same household.

so you can be checked in
at the one entry door on Willett St by the ramp.
If you are handicapped, please park in the church lot,
and check in at the elevator door.

From the Stewardship Committee

A Message from the Stewardship Committee

When First Pres reopened its doors on Willett Street on June 20th, it was an invitation to Come and See, Together. We asked the congregationtwo questions: Why are you grateful to be back at First Pres in person? and What did you miss about not being at First Pres? It was an opportunity to learn what our members saw at the moment they came together for the first time in 15 months.

Overwhelmingly, they saw a community and a family. One member responded, “Because I love this vital community which seems even more so in person!” We treasured the time of fellowship and appreciated the presence of God that exists when God’s followers gather together. We were thankful for the opportunity to listen to the gospel and the Pastors in person, to sing hymns (in our hearts for the time being), greet each other (even with 6 feet between us), and catch up with old friends over coffee.

Members were grateful for the building itself. We missed the sanctuary, a place dedicated to practicing faith, where you can be fully present as you sit peacefully and reflect. Celebrating God through music can be more impactful when you feel the vibrations of the organ in your pew.  Others missed worshiping under the Sea of Galilee window which inspires a sense of peace as we reflect on Sunday mornings.

The Stewardship Committee invites once again to Come and See, Together on October 24th for Consecration Sunday.  Please take the opportunity to reflect on the joy, relief, and gratitude we felt when the doors of First Presbyterian’s sanctuary reopened.

Creation Care

Youth & Families!

Please respond to the linked doodle poll to reschedule a couple summer events, and start planning for gatherings this fall.
Please mark ALL days that you/your youth would be available for an event.

Some possibilities would be for a service project, an outdoor gathering such as a pool party or fire pit, a weekend retreat, or a day at Soul Fire Farm. The times are not set in stone, but meant to be a general "morning", "afternoon", "evening" time slot. Please use the comments section to make any clarifications or suggestions.

We will ALWAYS be mindful of and follow best practices for safety regarding COVID-19. This is just a planning tool that will help in scheduling (and rescheduling as necessary).

Thank you in advance for your prompt responses! Click here to answer the poll!

Word Communion Sunday

“May the God of Peace … grant you peace at all times in all ways.”
It was a daring prayer, all things considered, to ask the Thessalonians to pray — and it is also a daring one for us, I imagine. The second letter to the Thessalonians arrived at a time of turmoil, strife and confusion. The Christian community was experiencing persecutions so severe that some believed the time of judgment had come, while others took advantage of their doubt, spreading misinformation and sowing dissent. The letter ends with a benedictory prayer: for God’s peace to be always granted in all ways. It might have been daring enough to consider asking them to imagine peace at “any time,” much less at “all times,” or to imagine peace in some sort of way at all, much less in all of them. Have you ever felt so far from God’s peace that you couldn’t even imagine it?

Peace is so often a daring prayer and so often provoked in the imagination. It encourages the church to cast off anxiety and fear, discord, and division, and embrace our God's mission of reconciliation to those around the corner and around the world.

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday.   We will be demonstrating our commitment to God’s mission of peace and reconciliation to those around the corner and around the world by making a gift  to the  Peace and Global Witness Offering. The Peace & Global Witness Offering supports ministries that work for reconciliation and aid in healing.  It also supports efforts to promote the Peace of Christ and take action to address systems of conflict and injustice locally and around the world.

The Offering supports the ministry and work at all levels of the Presbytery. Twenty Five Percent (25% ) of the funds collected will support our peace and reconciliation work and ministries in our local communities.  Twenty five percent (25%) will go the regional councils for their peace and reconciliation ministries throughout the region. Fifty percent (59%)  goes to the national church to address these issues nationally and globally, including the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, to educate, bear Christian witness to and  advocate for peace and justice in cultures of violence.

As you consider making a gift to Peace and Global Witness, reflect on the words of this prayer:

O God of Peace at all times in all ways, grant us your peace and help us to imagine a world where your justice and peace are ever knownAmen
