Al Easton has served as Treasurer of First Presbyterian
Church for over 20 years and has decided it is time to retire. Being a dedicated servant, Al agreed to serve through January so he could give one last Annual Report on the state of the church’s financial health at the Annual Congregational Meeting this past Sunday. After making that report, those attending (on Zoom) showed their gratitude with a round of applause. The next time
you see or speak to Al, please add your own expression
of gratitude and thank him for his long and faithful years
of service to First Pres.

Reviews of Antiracism Resources
|
|
|
One First Pres priority is “combating systemic racism both within and outside the church.” A number of events in the last year highlight the urgency of taking steps to overcome systemic racism: the mob of predominately white people who met little resistance as they stormed our nation’s Capitol on January 6 compared to the violent treatment of some Black Lives Matter protestors; the killing of black people, including George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, sometimes by white police officers; and the higher death rate among black and brown victims of COVID-19.
What can we do to overcome systemic racism? One crucial step is to learn more about underlying biases in our institutions and in ourselves.
Many church members are already reading and discussing books and articles that address this underlying racism. Whether you are reading antiracist articles and books on your own or with a group, the Membership Committee invites you to share your insights and thoughts with fellow members in First Pres eblasts. What did you find enlightening? For whom would you recommend this particular book or article? Reviews of children’s books on antiracism are also welcome. We also invite reviews of other media addressing racism, such as movies, TV shows, and podcasts.
Please email your mini book reviews to: Carol Green. Questions about book reviews may be directed to Carol Green at email or call or text 518-331-1447.
