Lent at FPC

Join us on March 2, at 7:00pm

for our Ash Wednesday worship service:
in-person and livestreaming on Facebook.
Here is the bulletin and here is the FB link.

During Lent help to create APRIL SHOWERS
of welcome and appreciation
each Sunday in Assembly Hall.
Create a card of welcome and love
that will be given in APRIL to guests at
the FOCUS Breakfast program.
Create a card of thanks and appreciation
for a healthcare worker,
which we’ll deliver in APRIL to area hospitals.
You can create these cards at home as well
and drop them off at the church.
We’re hoping for lots of showers!
Join us online each Wednesday during Lent,
March 9, 16, 23, 30 and April 6,
for Taizé worship at 6:00 p.m.
We will livestream the service on Facebook.
The link will be in Thursday's eblast
and here is the bulletin.
Our traditional Taizé services include simple, meditative songs,
scripture, prayer and silence.  The liturgy for these services originated
with the Taizé community founded in France in 1940.
This community is an ecumenical, intentional community
with a twofold purpose: to seek communion with God
Finger Labyrinth Walks and Meditations occur each Thursday through April at 12:30pm via Zoom. Pastor Miriam, Certified Advanced Labyrinth Facilitator, leads each session, and our time together is 30 minutes. This time is open to all, whether you’ve walked a labyrinth in the past or not. Register here for Thursday, March 3, to receive the zoom link. Please have a Finger Labyrinth available - you can download a paper version if you don’t have your own or Jamie in the church office. Join us!

A Message from the
Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee

The invasion of the Ukraine by Russia has us all praying for the people of the Ukraine. PC(USA) Stated Clerk J. Herbert Nelson has issued a statement  on behalf of the Presbyterian Church stating in part, "We stand in solidarity with Ukraine and lift up her people, praying for their safety." He goes on to enumerate steps to bring an end to the Russian invasion. Please click here to read the entire statement.

COVID protocol update: The Ad Hoc Committee advising the session on COVID protocols is meeting on March 6 and will make a recommendation to the session regarding any changes in our protocols. The Session meets March 15 and will review the recommendation and make decisions about any protocol changes. Thanks for your patience and please continue to pray for these two groups as they guide us in this unchartered territory.

Climate Rally in Albany

"The earth was created for a purpose, not for profit."
This is the moment: the big push to fund the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). Governor Hochul said $1b; Senator Stewart-Cousins said $3-4b. NYSERDA says it needs $10b. We know New York needs $15b to fund all four buckets of state initiatives. We are taking our case to the governor's mansion and the state legislature. Join us. Let's show them what moral courage looks like, what righteous indignation sounds like.
All the information is on the registration landing page, including bus sign ups.

Advocacy Work

First Pres, through the Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee, has been
working with the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. Here are opportunities for education and advocacy

It’s Movement Time: An Introduction to the Poor People’s Campaign.

What is the Poor People’s Campaign? What is the movement we are building? And why is this movement time? Join us as we discuss the history of the Poor People’s Campaign from 1968 to today, the strategies and structure of the campaign and their importance, and our local and statewide efforts. We will engage in conversation to identify ways we are all affected by the interlocking evils and explore ways we can work together to further our fight against these systems oppression and lift from the bottom. Whether you don’t know much about the Poor People’s Campaign or have been with us for a while, join us for this important conversation to move forward together.
