First Pres, through the Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee, has been working with the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. Here are opportunities for education and advocacy:

On Monday, January 17th at 5pm (MLK Day) we’re joining with numerous local organizations, including the Albany County Central Federation of Labor and the Albany NAACP:
“Labor & Community: United for Social Justice”

The event will include:
- a historical and contemporary look at Dr. King’s legacy.
- a documentary titled “Be Alright Be Alright” recounting stories of the sanitation workers, the labor strike that changed the civil rights movement.
We will engage on the implications for workers today.
- labor and community leaders will engage in a roundtable and neighborhood discussion on the Albany Multi-craft Apprenticeship Preparation Program (MAPP) and the role such labor initiatives play in communities of color, along with ways to improve and expand such initiatives.
Proof of vaccination will be required at the door for in-person attendees, and the event will be live streamed at www.albanylabor.org

The General Meetings of the Capital Region Poor People’s Campaign are moving to the third Thursday of each month, so this month will be January 20th, 6:30pm. You can RSVP for call info here.

Join Us in January to Mobilize for the Environment
New York State has become a leader in the care of Creation by passage of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act in 2019. Join us on January 25 at 11 AM to 3 PM at the NYS Capitol underground concourse for the Climate Can’t Wait Mobilization Rally. We are asking the Governor and Legislature to prioritize climate in the 2022 budget so that NYS can move forward in climate and environmental remediation. For more information, go to our Events page at www.capitalcreationcare.org.

Would you like to help run the audio-visual systems during the church service? You would control the soundboard, which broadcasts the audio throughout the sanctuary and the Internet broadcasting software that delivers the Facebook livestream. And, of course, you'd receive full training.
Our team shares these duties so that your commitment would be between 8 - 12 Sundays per year.
If interested, please contact Dwight Cheu at dwightcheu@gmail.com. We also welcome high school students too -- this would be a great introduction to audio and video broadcasting.
