Eve Glazier, MDWe are thrilled to congratulate division member Dr. Eve Glazier on her appointment last fall as President of the Faculty Practice Group at UCLA Health.  Dr. Glazier received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley and her Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University.  She completed her internal medicine residency at UCLA and also received her Masters of Business Administration from UCLA.
Dr. Glazier has worked at UCLA Health for 10 years, most recently serving as the Medical Director for the Entertainment Industry Medical Group (EIMG). In this role, she has led the successful integration of the EIMG into UCLA Health and has implemented major performance improvement initiatives.  Dr. Glazier has also built highly effective relationships with external partners including the self-insured employers. She has a proven record of accomplishments and the capacity to engage senior leadership and faculty.  In addition to her leadership role as Medical Director, she has served as a member of the FPG Executive Team and served on the FPG Budget and Finance Committee. Dr. Glazier is an outstanding clinician educator, and we are so proud to have her as one of our division members!

Please join me in congratulating GIM division member Michael Ong as the new Hospitalist Division Chief, VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System! Mike has been a leader and innovator in developing systems of care, especially inpatient flow and readmissions, working collaboratively across the institution. He has been at VA GLA for almost 5 years and has had a number of important roles, including leading research for the Hospitalist Division and serving as a member of the national VA Hospitalist Field Advisory Committee.  He is one of the Principal Investigators of the VA Care Coordination Quality Enhancement Research Initiative and the Principal Investigator of the newly awarded VA Patient Safety Center of Inquiry focused on complex patient care transition safety. He also is the Chair of the State of California’s Tobacco Education and Research Oversight Committee, which oversees tobacco control efforts for California.

Ron Hays, PhDDr. Ron Hays was named a Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) 2017 Highly Cited Reseacher.

Yusuke Tsugawa, MD, PhD

Dr. Yusuke Tsugawa's paper, Comparison of Hospital Mortality and Readmission Rates for Medicare Patients Treated by Male vs Female Physicians, published in JAMA Internal Medicine was  #3 in Altmetrics Top 100 papers of 2017.

DDavid Eisenman, MDr. David Eisenman was appointed to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Committee on Evidence-Based Practices for Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response. The Committee will conduct a comprehensive review and grading of evidence for public health emergency preparedness and response practices since Sept. 11, 2001.

Emily Cantor, MDDr. Emily Cantor at the VA was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in the California Southern region.  Being an FACP is a distinction earned from colleagues who recognize  accomplishments and achievements over and above the practice of medicine. The  considerations for ACP Fellowship are excellence and contributions made to both medicine and to the broader community in which the internist lives and practices.
GIM in the News
Laura Wherry, PhDPsychCentral featured Dr. Laura Wherry's article "State Medicaid Expansions for Parents Led to Increased Coverage and Prenatal Care Utilization among Pregnant Mothers" just published in the journal HSR.

Her findings indicate that expanded Medicaid coverage for parents can lead to improvements in health insurance coverage and expanded use of prenatal care, which may have important consequences for their children’s health.
