For Immediate Release - New York, NY - Lawrence Brownlee is pleased to announce his 2019-20 season, continuing his presence at leading international opera houses and major orchestra halls. Brownlee’s season launches with a return to the Lyric Opera of Chicago for one of his signature roles as Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville under the baton of Sir Andrew Davis, followed by a return to Dutch National Opera for another Rossinian comedy favorite as Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola, alongside Isabel Leonard. Brownlee then makes a welcome return to Houston Grand Opera, for his role debut as Fernand in Donizetti’s La Favorite

Brownlee then switches gears to perform with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Münchner Rundfunkorchester, a Gala with Pretty Yende and the Würth Philharmoniker, a concert in his hometown with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, a recital alongside Michael Spyresand the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, and more. He will also give a U.S. tour of solo recitals featuring his critically-acclaimed Cycles of My Being, a song cycle that centers on the black male experience in America today, including performances at Shriver Hall for its Baltimore premiere and at Gardner Museum Concerts for its Boston premiere. His spring includes a house debut at The Dallas Opera in The Barber of Seville, alongside Pretty Yende and Lucas Meachem, and his season concludes with Il Pirataat the Konzerthaus Dortmund and Klangvokal Festival and Beethoven’sSymphony No. 9 at the BBC Proms.

Notable highlights from last season included performances at Opéra national de Paris and Deutsche Oper Berlin, role debuts as Nadir in Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers (Houston Grand Opera) and Ilo in Rossini’s Zelmira (Washington Concert Opera), a 12-stop Duo Recital tour with Eric Owens, and the Washington DC premiere of Cycles of My Being, of which his performance was praised by the Washington Post for “a cappella floods of some of the most virtuosic and beautiful singing I’ve ever heard, mingling classical and gospel traditions in a single distinctive stream.”
