Announcements
Carolyn Myers of Camas Friends Church passed away on August 27, 2019. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m., tomorrow, Saturday, October 5 (potluck to follow).
FWCC World Quaker Day: October 6, 2019. This year’s theme is Sustainability: Planting Seeds of Renewal for the World We Love. Resources are available, and FWCC created videos on sustainability this year, including one video with US Quaker leaders sharing about the connection between creation care and Quakerism (including our very own co-clerk, Cherice Bock), and a second video with global Friends sharing about the impacts they are already feeling from climate change.
Way of the Spirit is hosting a mini-retreat at Multnomah Monthly Meeting (4312 SE Stark St, Portland) on Saturday, October 19, 2019: Find Life in Your Prayer or Spiritual Practice. 9:00am-12:30, followed by lunch. Way of the Spirit is is an 18-month retreat and learning program for spiritual deepening from the wisdom of Quaker spirituality. Eugene Friends Church (3495 W 18th Ave, Eugene, OR) is hosting an inquiry session at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 20.
"A Shared Voice on Earth Care" webinar: Monday, October 21, 2019, 10:00am (Pacific Time). Speakers will include: Emma Condori Mamani, a lifelong Quaker from La Paz, Bolivia, who is speaking out about climate change and access to clean water, Emily Wirzba, who lobbies on energy and environmental concerns for the Friends Committee on National Legislation in the US (FCNL), Beverly Ward, who is the Field Secretary for Earthcare for Southeastern Yearly Meeting, and Kallan Benson, a Friend from Annapolis, Maryland, who is a leader of the youth climate strike. Broken Vessels Quaker Ministries is happy to announce the return of the Deeper Roots program. Deborah Shaw, Deborah Fisch, and Lloyd Lee Wilson will lead a group of committed Friends in a “deep dive” into the history of our Quaker faith, a Quaker perspective on the Bible and how to benefit from it, sampling spiritual practices and disciplines valuable to Friends, and building authentic spiritual community. Four long weekend residencies over 18 months, beginning 9/10-13, 2020, at Ben Lomond Quaker Center in California. Suitable for seasoned Friends as well as those relatively new to Quakerism.
