Prepare

Bylaws
The Bylaws Subcommittee received 62 comments and 3 emails in response to the first public draft of the bylaws for Sierra-Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends. The subcommittee met this last weekend and completed three documents for you to look over in preparation for our time together this weekend.
  1. NARRATIVE – The Bylaws Subcommittee produced a report explaining some of the context for the proposed bylaws including general background for why what they produced is as lengthy and as detailed as it is. This report also addresses concerns about the introduction. Click here for a pdf of that report.
  2. ACTIONS – This document summarizes the written feedback received by the Bylaws Subcommittee, delineating the main points made for each section and the action the subcommittee took in response to those points. Click here for a pdf of the document.
  3. PROPOSED BYLAWS – This is the newest version of the proposed bylaws for Sierra-Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends, following the work of the Bylaws Subcommittee on Saturday, February 10. Click here for a pdf of the document.

Pre-register
If you are planning to attend this Saturday, please pre-register. Especially if you have children! We need to know their names and ages. So far we only have three children preregistered, but we believe there are more than that planning to attend and we want to make sure we have more-than-adequate coverage. Pre-register by sending an email to Rachel Hampton – hamptonrachel2002@outlook.com – with the number of people coming with you, and the age of any children under 12 that you plan to bring with you.

Childcare
We may need more people to help provide childcare. We have two signed up and need one or two more. Please email Rachel Hampton – hamptonrachel2002@outlook.com – if you can help out, even for an hour. If you’ve already been through the NWYM video training, then you might be exactly the kind of person we’re looking for.

The next quarterly gathering will be at Camas Friends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., this Saturday, February 17, 2018. Email Rachel Hampton – hamptonrachel2002@outlook.com – with contact information, the number of people coming with you, and the age of any children under 12 that you plan to bring with you. This information will help us to plan for food and childcare.
10:00 – 11:00 am || Gathering and opening worship
11:00 am – 12:30 pm || Business session
12:30 – 1:30 pm || Lunch – Crock-pot potluck with ingredients listed to accommodate for allergies
1:30 – 2:30 pm || Committees meet || FCNL priority training for non-committee members
2:30 – 4:30 or 5:00 pm || Business session
5:00 pm || Adjourn officially, but sandwich-makings will be on hand for people to make to go or to eat and hang around longer

In an attempt to keep things simple yet have adequate food for all, including those who have food restrictions/allergies, we are planning to host a crock-pot potluck at the Camas gathering. Here’s what you need to know:
  • If you are coming from far and it is inconvenient to bring food, don’t bring any. There will be enough.
  • If you bring a crock-pot dish, please bring a list of the ingredients. This will help people with food allergies/sensitivities to choose foods they can handle. We’ll have cards and pens in case you forget.
  • Please keep your food simple. We only have an hour to eat, so people need to be able to simply get in line and serve themselves without a lot of last minute putting things together.
  • Bring enough food to serve 6-8 people to compensate for those who can’t bring food.
  • There will be friends greeting you to tell you where to take the food or who can take it to the designated place for you. We’ll have power strips to plug crock-pots into to hold the food at safe temperatures.
  • If you would prefer to bring a salad, that would be nice too. Again, please list ingredients. Finger food veggies &/or fruit is always welcome.
  • We will try to group gluten-containing foods into one area to help those who can’t tolerate it avoid it and be safe, but we do not have a gluten-free kitchen.
We will provide:
  • Silverware and plates and bowls. We have some serving utensils.
  • Drinks
  • Sandwich makings for the end of the day. We will have bread (gluten-free for those who need it), lunch meat, cheese, condiments, lettuce, etc. We will not have peanut butter since that is a common allergen for children.
If you have questions, you can contact Norma Silliman normaruth.silliman@gmail.com, 360-607-7546 or Kendra Purcell, office@camasfriends.org. We look forward to spending the day with you and getting better acquainted over our meal.
